Valentine's Day 2005 - Poetry Winners
"Valentine's Day"
by IceDream
Valentine's Day is for people
Who have given each other their love
They thank their partners for being there
It's a love sent from heaven above
They pledge their love for ever more
And promise they never will stray
And vow eternal devotion,
Until their dying day
February 14th is Valentines Day
For everyone but me and you
For I pledged my love a long time ago
and I made a promise so true
Valentine's day started when we met
Every day is special you see
I kept the promise from long ago
A promise of eternal love from me
I'm thanking you for this gift again
A love so rare and true
Valentine's Day wouldn't mean a thing
if I couldn't share this day with you

"What Is A Valentine"
by Sally Matheson
A Valentine means may things,
upon this special day.
It's more than Cupids arrows
as they so commonly like to say.
It's more than hearts and roses,
more than candy too.
It's something deep within your heart
that draws someone close to you.
Something in their chemistry
that makes you want them near.
Something in their calming ways
that settles all your fears.
Maybe it's in their closeness,
they are always there for you.
They show their admiration
for all the things you do.
A Valentine means may things,
upon this special day.
It's more than Cupids arrows
as they so commonly like to say.
It's more than hearts and roses,
more than candy too.
It's something deep within your heart
that draws someone close to you.
Something in their chemistry
that makes you want them near.
Something in their calming ways
that settles all your fears.
Maybe it's in their closeness,
they are always there for you.
They show their admiration
for all the things you do.
Maybe it's in their attitude,
in their happy go lucky ways.
They comfort all your sorrows
on those cold and gloomy days.
Maybe it's in their concern for you,
by asking what is wrong.
When they see you sitting silently
for what seems so very long.
Maybe it is a secret,
and your love you just can't show.
You have to hold it deep inside
so that no one else will know.
No matter what the reason
you hold your Valentine so near.
The happiness they make you feel
fills your heart with love and cheer!

"Day Dreams"
by Mae Whitney
Day dreams of love and abandoned desire
Ecstatic feelings that set me on fire
Thoughts of kissing your sweet face
While we are together in a special place.
Awaking to see your sleepy smile
Holding you close for a long, long while
Knowing you would have to leave
And I would be left alone to grieve
Will my day dreams ever come true?
Be my Valentine and day dream too.
